The Saccomanno Higher Education Foundation (SHEF) was created to promote the educational pursuits of students in need of financial aid, thus enabling them to improve their lives, the lives of their families, and those of their community.


The foundation encourages applications from individuals regardless of age and academic achievement accomplishments.  Scholarships are granted for use at accredited in-state or out-of-state colleges, universities, and vocational schools.

The application for the 2024-2025 school year will be open from October 1, 2023 to April 30, 2024.

We will notify you via e-mail by May 31, 2024 if you have been awarded a scholarship.

Basis of Selection

  • Students must be residents of Mesa County, Colorado or Carbon County, Utah for consideration.

  • Students must prove financial need.

Awards

  • Costs at any college/university or vocational institution including tuition, reasonable allowances for books and fees, and room and board expenses (on campus room and board only as all payments are made to the institution).

  • Awards will be paid directly to the institution

  • For the 23-24 Academic Year: It is the applicant's responsibility to see that the institution directly bills Alpine Bank Wealth Management, P.O. Box 1150, Grand Junction, CO 81502, each semester.  Unused funds for the above awards will be returned  to the SHEF.

  • For the 24-25 Academic Year: It is the applicant's responsibility to see that the institution directly bills The Colorado Mesa University Foundation, 1450 N. 12th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81501.  Unused funds for the above awards will be returned  to the SHEF.

  • Your award, in part, is decided on the cost of the school you planned to attend, as noted in your application.  A change in schools may result in a change in the amount  of the award.

Application Instructions and Required Documents (please read carefully and comply)

  • Appropriate and required tax returns:  
    If you are 23 years of age or younger, you must submit a copy of your 2022 federal tax returns and those of your parents', guardians' or stepparents' and if married, your spouse's 2022 federal tax return.  

    If you are over age 23, you must submit a copy of your 2022 federal tax returns and if married, your spouse's 2022 federal tax return.  
    We accept 2022 tax returns in an effort to make the application process less time sensitive.  

    Each applicant must provide copies of the required tax returns.  If several members of the same family are applying, each applicant must submit a copy of the required tax returns.
     
  • You must also submit your 24-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) . The page that includes your SAI is required! ***If you have not received your processed FAFSA by April 1st we will accept your 23-24 FAFSA indicating your EFC.***

  • Your letter of recommendation should come from a faculty member of the most recently attended school or from your present or most recent employer.

Scholarship Billing/Payment Inquiries or School Changes

  • For the 23-24 Academic Year: Please immediately notify Alpine Bank Wealth Management via an e-mail to SunnyPulliam@alpinebank.com of a change in schools or for all billing and payment inquiries.

  • For the 24-25 Academic Year: Please immediately notify The Colorado Mesa University Foundation via e-mail to cmaher@coloradomesa.edu of a change in schools or for all billing and payment inquires.

Scholarship Renewal

  • Students must reapply every year as financial situations may change.
